Tinubu Wins Another Suit against Inauguration, as Court Imposes N17m Fine on Litigants, Lawyer

  Barely four hours after the Supreme Court dismissed a suit challenging the qualification of president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for the February 25 presidential election, a Federal High Court in Abuja, has also dismissed another suit by three individuals seeking to stop the May 29 inauguration, on alleged perjury. Justice James Omotosho, in a ruling on Friday, dismissed the suit on the grounds that it was incompetent and lacking in merit. The plaintiffs; Praise Ilemona Isaiah, Pastor Paul Isaac Audu and Anongu Moses, had approached the court for an order halting the inauguration of Tinubu as President of Nigeria, on the grounds that Tinubu supplied false information to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about his age and citizenship status. But in his ruling, Justice Omotosho held that the plaintiffs lacked the locus standi to initiate the suit in the first place, adding that the court also lacked necessary jurisdiction to entertain the suit since it relates to a p

The Nigerian Government has declared Monday May 29 a public holiday to commemorate the inauguration of President-elect Bola Tinubu as the 16th democratically elected president of Nigeria. Tinubu will succeed current President Muhammadu Buhari after swearing in on Monday, May 29. Buhari was first elected in 2015, reelected in 2019 to complete a two-term tenure as president. Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who announced the public holiday, felicitated with Nigerians on the momentous occasion.   President Muhammadu Buhari and his successor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu were on Friday, spotted together going round the Presidential Villa. The tour around the seat of power is to familiarise the incoming President, with the workings of the State House, from where he would preside over the affairs of Nigeria. This comes ahead of the May 29, 2023 inauguration, expected to take place at the Eagle Square, Abuja. Both leaders were seen taking a walk around the villa vicinity after the Jumat Prayers at the Mosque within the premises. Court Fines Litigants, Lawyer N17m Over Suit To Stop Tinubu’s Inauguration

  Justice James Omotoso of a Federal High Court in Abuja, has imposed a fine of N17m on three litigants and their lawyer for filing a frivolous suit seeking to stop the inauguration of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The court imposed the fines on Praise Ilemona, Pastor Paul Issac Audu and Dr Anongu Moses, who jointly instituted the suit, praying for an order to halt the May 29 swearing-in of Tinubu as new President. The three litigants are to jointly pay the President-elect a sum of N10m and another N5m to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which was part of the seven defendants in the suit. Justice Omotoso also ordered that an interest of 10 per cent be placed on the judgment debt per year until when finally liquidated. The Plaintiffs’ lawyer, Daniel Elomah, who filed the suit declared as vexatious by the court, on their behalf, was ordered to pay N1m each to Tinubu and the APC.   TV presenter Phillip Schofield has admitted he lied to his colleagues and the media about an affair he had with a younger male ITV employee. In a statement to the Daily Mail,  Schofield confirmed the relationship took place while he was still married. The former This Morning host said his affair with the man, who the BBC is not naming, was "unwise but not illegal". He has resigned from ITV with immediate effect and will no longer present the British Soap Awards next month. Schofield also told the BBC he was stepping down from being managed by talent agency YMU "with immediate effect". The 61-year-old  left his role as a host on This Morning  last week after reports of a rift with co-star Holly Willoughby.
